Love it or hate it, Halloween is slowly but surely becoming a ‘thing’ in Australia, and with that comes some pressure to come up with a neat costume idea for a Halloween party.
Of course, our friends in the United States have had many years to perfect their costume prowess, and it shows.
Even if you’re the local ‘get off my lawn’ grouch this Halloween, take a moment to appreciate these truly creative costumes from the past few years:
10. Kim Jong-Un
North Korea’s current “Dear Leader” gets the Halloween treatment from a very creative young lady. She absolutely nails the facial expressions and poses.
9. Lucille Ball – I Love Lucy
This incredible costume captures the legendary Lucille Ball as we may recognise her best – in the silvery tones of black and white television.
8. E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial
Possibly the coolest kids costume ever, for anyone who understands how crocheting works. This masterpiece was apparently completed in just a few days. Show-offs.
7. Toy Soldier from Toy Story
This throwback to childhood is awesome, and surprisingly cheap to make. Garbage bags, green paint and your best frozen statue stance are all you need.
6. Walter White – Breaking Bad
If ever you want to feel completely basic when it comes to make-up, check out some of the experts on Instagram, like this girl.
5. Cat Lady, Jr.
Every neighbourhood needs a crazy cat lady – why not make it your toddler this Halloween? The hair rollers and sparkly slippers really add the finishing touches.
4. Professor Hubert J. Farnsworth – Futurama
Good news, everyone! Professor Farnsworth really comes to life in all his crotchety glory, in this effort from special effects artist, Frank Ippolito. It’d be handy to have him around for Halloween.
3. A Banksy Mural
Talk about life imitating art – this costume is deceptive in its simplicity, and so effective. Banksy himself would be impressed.
2. Wayne and Garth – Wayne’s World
Party on, Wayne! If you love Wayne’s World but lack friends, this one-man costume creates the perfect illusion of both Wayne and Garth, and your popularity in general.
1. Zombie Audrey Hepburn
If you’re up for a little Bitefest at Tiffany’s, this zombie Audrey Hepburn is elegant and terrifying, all at once.
