Martin Scorsese’s latest period drama makes full use of the enchanting cinematography for which he is celebrated, in bringing this story to life.

Set in 17th century Japan, two Jesuit priests journey from Portugal to locate their missing mentor, who is believed to have renounced his Catholic beliefs. With Catholicism outlawed across the nation, their presence is noticed and distinctly unwelcome.

Based on the 1966 novel, this is Scorsese crafting at his historical best, with subtle nods to legendary Japanese filmmaker, Akira Kurosawa.
