Family Fun – The LEGO Batman Movie [PG] MARCH 2017
When The LEGO Movie became a worldwide phenomenon in 2014, LEGO Batman (voiced by Will Arnett) was a huge hit – so much so, that the smallest, suavest superhero in the business got his very own film.
In The LEGO Batman Movie, smooth-talking Bruce Wayne is still doing his thing as the caretaker of Gotham City – kicking the butts of bad guys in his iconic Batman disguise. How things change, however, when he finds himself juggling Dark Knight duties with the responsibility of caring for the child he adopted.
Just like the first in the burgeoning LEGO film franchise, this is a colourful, quirky and cheeky gem that is perfect family watching.
Awesome Action – Logan [MA 15+] MARCH 2017
The much-anticipated (alleged) final chapter for Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Logan takes us beyond the mutant X-Men spectacles in previous instalments of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe, to show us a raw, weary man caring for the ailing Professor X.
Logan (Wolverine) is in hiding from many things – his past, his mottled legacy, his addictions. With mutants all but eradicated, his self-imposed exile goes mostly unnoticed, until a mystery woman drags him back into the foreground one last time. Brutal, gripping action and moving drama – it’s a Marvel film like you’ve never seen before.
Superhero Blockbuster – Wonder Woman [M] JUNE 2017
Ever since her scene-stealing cameo in Batman vs. Superman, audiences have champed at the bit for Gal Gadot to reprise her role as the goddess superhero, Wonder Woman.
This huge DC Extended Universe release takes us through her origin story: before she was Wonder Woman, she was the mighty Diana Prince – Amazonian royalty trained to be an unconquerable warrior force. When the outside world faces a seemingly unstoppable threat, she leaves her paradise to become the hero she needs to be.
Adventure Time – Kong: Skull Island [M] MARCH 2017
In this reimagining of the classic Kong legend, we are treated to a visual feast that brings an all-new quest to our screens.
A group of brave adventurers band together to explore unchartered territory – areas as beautiful as they are perilous. Little do they know, they are moving ever-closer to the mythical beast King Kong.
With an all-star cast including the likes of John Goodman, John C. Reilly and Samuel L. Jackson, get ready to dust off the safari suit.
Superb Sci-Fi – Ghost in the Shell [MA 15+] APRIL 2017
Based on the critically acclaimed Japanese manga series and animated film of the same name, Ghost in the Shell is a gripping sci-fi tale starring Scarlett Johansson as The Major, a unique Special Ops cyborg who leads the elite Section 9 task force. Together, they keep the streets free of criminal elements and terrorism. However, Section 9 appears to have met their match when an enemy appears hell-bent on destroying the technology that makes Major and her squad so powerful.
Immerse yourself in this wildly futuristic, cyberpunk universe as soon as you can.
One for the Kiddies – Peppa Pig My First Cinema Experience: My Australian Holiday [G] APRIL 2017
Is there a pre-schooler in Australia who isn’t completely obsessed with Peppa Pig? Probably not.
There’s great news, though – Peppa Pig is hitting the big screen in an absolutely massive event, featuring nine brand-new episodes, interactive sing-alongs and so much more.
The kids can join Peppa on her adventures Down Under, where she will meet new characters and have all sorts of fun. It’s the ultimate ‘first cinema trip’ for the little ones.
Remarkable Remake – Baywatch [M] MAY 2017
2017 seems to be another ‘Year of the Remake’, and Baywatch may end up being the biggest of them all.
Starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Zac Efron as the bay’s finest lifeguards, Baywatch retains a lot of the tongue-in-cheek comedy so loved in the 90s TV series.
In this movie, the team is shaken up when new lifeguards with new methods arrive on the scene, but they must put aside their differences and work together to foil a criminal plot that threatens the bay, their livelihoods and perhaps even their lives.
With appearances from original series stars David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson, what’s not to love?
